We sell every version of the Komatsu 3D88 - mechanical and electronic, new surplus and rebuilt - and we build each one to the machine it is going into. We also supply the Yanmar 3TNV88, which is the same engine. This page explains the difference between the variants so you order the right one first time. If you already know what you need, send us your data plate and we will quote you.
KOMATSU 3D88 AND YANMAR 3TNV88 ARE THE SAME ENGINE.
Komatsu's small D-series diesels are Yanmar TNV engines built under the long-standing Komatsu-Yanmar relationship and badged as Komatsu. The Komatsu 3D88 / 3D88E is the Yanmar 3TNV88: same block, same crankshaft, same 88 x 90 mm bore and stroke, same 1.642 L displacement, same architecture. If your data plate reads 3D88E-3, 3D88E-5, 3D88E-6 or 3D88E-7, that is a Komatsu-badged Yanmar 88 mm three-cylinder. In practice this doubles the pool of engines that can be built to fit your Komatsu, and we supply from both.
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE THAT REALLY MATTERS: HOW THE ENGINE METERS FUEL.
Buyers usually start by hunting for the exact suffix that matches their machine. That is the wrong starting point. What actually has to match is the fuel system.
MECHANICAL INJECTION. A mechanical injection pump with a mechanical governor. No ECU, no sensors, no wiring harness to match. This is what most machines in the field are running and it is our standard stock.
ELECTRONIC / COMMON RAIL. ECU-controlled. Fitted to machines built to the later emissions sta
